The Small islands at the Southern tip of Florida are called keys, from the Spanish word cayo. It means “rock” or “islet”.
The name Florida Keys, is restricted to the chain of coral and limestone islands and reefs of about 60 keys that extends from Miami Beach to Key West.
Most of the islands are linked to the mainland by the Overseas Highway which has 42 bridges.
Islamorada is known as the Sport Fishing Capital of The World.
The name Islamorada, meaning “purple isle”, came from early Spanish explorers in the area. Its pronunciation has been Anglicized to aisle-a-more-AH-dah.
Water Surrounding The Keys
The Atlantic Ocean lies to the East, Florida Bay and the Gulf of Mexico lie to the West and the Florida Straits separate the Florida Keys from the Caribbean Sea to the South.
Some of the most important things in our lives are our children. Our children have grown up fishing and diving in the Florida Keys. The Islamorada boating lifestyle, has become as much a part of their lives as it has ours. Of course many friends have shared the wonders of the Atlantic Ocean with us. Here are just a few memories from our adventures.
Laugh, cry, and remember everything from the first sailfish in Islamorada to the latest trip out to Bimini. Relive every precious moment collecting seashells, spear-fishing, and reeling in the big ones. Nothing helps you get back into the moment like a video.
